Description
Taking a road trip to Pennsylvania this summer? These pamphlets might give you some insight or even some helpful information to enrich your trip.
"America Starts Here!"
,
goes the old marketing slogan for the Keystone State. And you'll see that line a lot in these vintage Pennsylvania Tourism Brochures and Pamphlets. The Brochures and Pamphlets are dated at, or just before, the 1976 bicentennial celebration, with an emphasis on the Lancaster and Amish Country interests.
Note that the "What's Happening NOW..." brochure has no date in or on it, but calculates to be in 1974. Remember the gas guzzling cars of the 1970's? Well, the article promoting Elizabethtown, a "mere 18 miles" away from Lancaster would "only" use 3 gallons of gas. In other words, these pamphlets are also a microcosm of the times.
(There is a small tear to upper left cover of "What's Happening NOW", otherwise it is near-pristine.)
Many of the pamphlets show dated / seasonal activity, of course, but also display year-round events as well.
There are 15 (fifteen) ephemerae presented here. The flyers, pamphlets, and brochures are in generally very good condition--small spots and rubber band residuals noted. There are maps in more than a few of the brochures, and appear accurate to current topography. FOR FUN, 4 brochures are included that show landmarks that are either markedly changed or are no longer in existence! (Charley Weaver Museum, Pequea Valley Vineyard & Winery, Mill-Bridge Craft Village, Country Crafts of Witmer.) (See Photo 4)
