Vintage HEAVY 55 GRAM "Twisted Blade" Medieval Style Sterling Cross Pendant

This is a stunning, heavy gauge work of solid sterling silver from renowned silversmith "Twisted Blade" that was purchased in the early 2000s. Everything about this piece is old school... these days, you just do not see works of sterling this LARGE and HEAVY in scale. Instead, you pay arm and leg to receive something in the mail with a weight that barely registers in the palm of your hand. The cultural trend has moved away from pieces of substance... of scale... on to "abstract" pieces that are "delicate" in build... lightweight, flimsy, cheap. Aside from this pendant's stunning handmade design, it is by far the chunkiest... bulkiest work of sterling I've ever had the pleasure of wearing around my neck. Indestructible, beautiful, and truly an impossible find. I highly encourage you to look for this pendant elsewhere - I assure you, you will end up right back here.... this piece might as well be a one of one - as it has no online presence whatsoever.
Sterling Silver:
As mentioned earlier, this is a HEAVYWEIGHT work of solid 925 sterling silver, weighing in at 55 GRAMS. The sterling throughout the piece is incredibly radiant, reflective, bright - not dull, stained, or tarnished as commonly seen with works of vintage sterling silver. It is stamped 925 at the back, right under the brand name logo of "twisted blade."
Design
Pendant Front:
This Pendant is HUGE, measuring 2.5 inches in height (including pendant loop) by about 1.75 inches across. It is exceptionally thick. The piece is rectangular in shape, with the sides of the piece bowed outwards. The focal point of the pendant is no doubt the large, 3-Dimensional protruding byzantine styled cross at the center. The cross is beautifully defined - and again - totally solid in nature. Behind the cross, a STUNNING and innately complex background of bezeled silver individually inlaid balls. The hundreds of balls that cover the front of the pendant are varied in size, giving the front of this pendant a wonderful sense of texture, originality, and depth. The border at the front of the pendant is one of "roped" silver, with solid silver Fluer-de-lis visble at all four corners.
Pendant Back:
While the front of this pendant may be the "star of the show," the back is certainly anything but ordinary! 28 etched and filled black crosses fill the top and bottom of the pendant back. At the center, an indented "dog tag" shape of sorts with the designer name "Twisted Blade" at the center - right below, a 925 stamp for material authenticity.
Pendant Loop:
The loop on this pendant is MASSIVE! I would venture to say that there is not a chain out there that wouldn't fit through this pendants loop - a good thing too, given the pendant's large size (it truly does look more fitting on a thick chain). The pendant loop is HIGH polish silver, very reflective, with high detailed cross at the front and back (again black filled). One of the best things about this loop is that it is free hanging - not welded to the top of the pendant. Therefor, the range of motion this pendant has is truly unparalleled. The loop moved left, right, and even backwards, forwards - which means that this pendant lays against the skin very naturally. It is a supremely comfortable wear.
~Overall, this is certainly a one of one these days.. I guarantee you will not find this HEAVYWEIGHT old school vintage silver Twisted Blade cross pendant anywhere else! In my old age, this pendant has simply become too heavy for me. My hope is that wherever this piece goes, it will be given the time in the light, and the continued admiration it so deserves.
