    stands in front of historic City Hall on Broad Street in downtown Rome. The
    statue
    is a replica of the Etruscan art that stands in the Palazzo dei Conservatori on Campidoglio (Ancient Capitoline Hill) in Rome, Italy.
    This has been afavorite statue of popes and dictators for centuries.
    The Capitoline Wolf is a bronze sculpture depicting a scene from the legend of the founding of Rome. The sculpture shows a she-wolf suckling the mythical twin founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus. According tothe legend, when King Numitor, grandfather of the twins, was overthrown by his brother Amulius in Alba Longa, the usurper ordered them to be cast into the Tiber River. They were rescued by a she-wolf that cared for them until a herdsman, Faustulus, found and raised them.
    This version is likely from the 1940’sand is bronzed white metal on an alabaster base.
    It measures
    5-1/2” x 2-3/4” x 4” high.
    It is in very good vintage condition.
