Original blue paper covered boards with silver decoration and lettering on covers. Photo-illustated title page. Book housed in its original printed cardboard slipcase. A selection of spectacular photographs of the Japanese Navy in World War II. The work is divided into two parts, the first is concerned with naval training, while the second part deals with the unfolding course of the war focusing on Japanese successes from Pearl Harbor, Malaya, New Guinea, and other parts of Southeast Asia. This scarce and stunning work is one of the very first to provide an extended pictorial account of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Includes also numerous black and white Soviet-style photographic plates of naval guns, battleships, military planes, as well as photographs of operations in China, Java, Borneo, Philippines, New Guinea, and otther areas in Southeast Asia. None of the image are credited to a particular photographer, but it includes work by Matsugi Fujio and (possibly) Kimura Ihei. Slipcase is age-toned, rubbed and partly chipped along edges. Binding is rubbed along edges, with silver decoration partly missing on covers. Offsetting to endpapers. Text in Japanese. Slip case in overall Poor to Fair condition. Binding in Good condition with front cover separated. Interior is in Very Good to Fine condition.
