This box is sent with instructions for you and your student(s) to put together a craft that can most certainly align with any K-12 grade standards.
Students are encouraged to use their imagination and come up with alternative ways to use the contents of the box as well.
I have to say how refreshing it was for me, as a homeschool mom, to find a box that not only all the kids love no matter the age/grade, but where the contents actually got used up!
I would also like to add that during covid my kids felt connected to others that they couldn't see in person through writing letters to friends & family. It was vital to their mental health. Boxes like this helped them to really understand the power of our words when we write from punctuation to spelling, to penmanship & more and how in-person vs reading can really bring another level of perception into a conversation. Combining learning with fun, is the best way to teach & learn!
Homeschool Educational Goals:
ELA
? Students will develop and understand the writing process, including but not limited to addressing envelopes/mail, and how to write a formal letter and invitations. The student will demonstrate organization of thoughts. Heading, salutation, body and closing. What is a P.S.?
Social Studies
? Student will understand where zip codes came from, when and why we have them. State locations and how the USPS came about. The history of the postal system as well as the history of stamps and zip codes. Follow up field trip to the post office and discussion with our local postman are encouraged.
Application
? Students will write six letters over the course of the school year and respond to any incoming letters accordingly and in real time. Focus will not be on handwriting, but rather informing and expressing thoughts in an organized manner.
Multidisciplinary
-This encompasses social studies and English subjects as well as some light math in area where we will measure the distance from one state to another.
Art
- Art helps to express ideas about oneself. Understanding the
characteristics
of art, including lines, shapes, colors, texture, principles of design,
repetition
and contrast are all vital skills.
