Fossil Pea Crab Pinnixa galliheri Miocene Monterey Formation California

Here is a genuine fossil Pea Crab, about 8 million years old, from the Miocene. It was found in the Monterey Formation, San Luis Obispo County, California.
These little creatures are small but fascinating. Modern ones are Kleptoparasites. They live as a parasite inside of clams, oysters, etc. The crab will hide in the gills of an oyster, and when some food comes the oyster's way, the crab steals it for itself, if possible.  People sometimes will find one in their seafood, particularly oysters.
This particular one is about 1" across, on a plate that weighs 1.0 oz. The plate is somewhat brittle in that a hard hit or drop could cause a piece to chip off, so please display it and handle with some care.
