Description
This fossil lobster-Thalassina anomala
, from Australia, dates from the Holocene -Epoch 1. The common name is the mud or mangrove lobster. This specimen is from Gunn Point, Northern Territory, Australia.
These arthropods are always found encased in a very hard matrix of mud. It is thought that they died in their burrows during a catastrophic event. Only careful preparation exposes the fossil and its anatomy. In this case 6 tail segments and the thorax are exposed and have been well-prepped out. The specimen measures 2.55 inches long, 1.88 inches wide and 1.2 inches high.
All of my fossils are guaranteed authentic and have been legally obtained.
