    Description

Vintage Fairyland Zoo, Black Hills, SD

    1960’s

I cannot find much history about Fairyland Zoo.  My husband brought this pennant back from a trip he took to South Dakota in the 60's and he remembers going to the zoo.
The zoo is no longer open and I cannot find out when it closed.
This is the only information I can find:   Earl Brockelsby founded
    Reptile Gardens
in 1937. Born on the dusty plains of Kadoka, a stone’s throw from the Badlands, in 1916, Brockelsby was a visionary who foresaw the rise of automobile tourism even before Mount Rushmore was completed.
Not all of Earl’s business ventures were successful.
He was unable to keep Fairyland Zoo going,
and his attempt to market squirrel monkeys as pets backfired.
I will need to carefully roll the pennant in order to mail it first class
