This is a great fossil crustacean from a classic location. This is Belotelson magister from the Pennsylvanian of Illinois. This famous site (Pit 11) has been closed to collecting for a number of years. The distinct shrimp is well preserved in a siderite concretion.
Both halves of the concretion are present, so both part and counterpart are intact!
The shrimp exhibits very fine detail - the head, body, and tail of the shrimp are wonderfully displayed - even the eyes, antennae, and legs are quite evident. The fabulous fossil has very good color and contrast and is almost perfectly centered in the large oval concretion. This is a textbook example of a fossil shrimp from the classic Mazon Creek locality.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS.com is included with this specimen. FREE SHIPPING in the USA!
