Description
*** In order to use this Kit you must own a Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator ****** This kit comes with 10 Blank 256MB SD Wafer cards. Each 256MB SD Wafer card is pre-formatted with a total of a 100 blank Coleco ADAM 1.44MB Disk images. So one can literally store a total of 1,000 1.44MB Disk images on a total of 10 different SD cards ***
*** The factory SD Wafer label can be peeled off, and then one can apply their own custom self-adhesive label that they designed on a color printer ***
This upgrade Kit contains the following 3 items for those that currently own a Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator
(one) microSD to SD wafer card reader with 60CM extension cable:
Allows one to use full size SDHC wafer cards up to 32GB capacity with the Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator. This SD wafer card reader with extension cable supports full size SD wafer cards and makes it much easier to insert microSD wafer cards. Also saves wear and tear on the microSD wafer slot.
(two) microSD adapter:
Allows one to use microSD wafer cards in the above SD wafer card reader.
(
three) 10 Pack of Blank 256MB SD Wafer media:
Equal to 1,000 blank 1.44MB Disks. The current firmware limitation in the Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator only allows a maximum of 144MB of space to be used on SD cards (100 Disk images x 1.44MB equals 144MB (140MB).
Questions and Answers
Question: What is the Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator?
Answer: In December 2016 there was a product released for the Coleco ADAM computer that is much better quality when compared to the original Coleco Digital Data Drive, or any ADAM Disk Drive every made including the top of the line third party ADAM 3.5 inch 1.44MB Disk Drives. In December 2016 Microfox Technologies released the
Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator
that comes with both
licensed and public domain games
on a microSD card.
Every Coleco ADAM owner should own at least one Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator, since it’s a must have item. The only reason we do not offer it for sale, is because it is exclusively sold and distributed by ADAM News Network. 3.5 inch 1.44MB Disk Drives for the ADAM computer use to sale brand new for around 9.99, the Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator for 0 plus shipping is a bargain (Even without the drive, the included bundled software on the microSD card is worth over 0+).
Question: What is this Coleco ADAM upgrade kit used for?
Answer: This upgrade kit is for existing owners of the Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator. It adds the ability to use full size SD wafer cards with a 60CM extension cable connected to a SD wafer card reader (also includes a microSD wafer card adapter). Also comes with a total of 10 full size Blank 256MB SD wafer cards.
Question: Why can't the entire space be used on a 256MB SD card when connected to the Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator?
Answer: The current firmware in the Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator allows for a maximum of 100 Coleco ADAM Disk images with each Disk image using a maximum of 1.44MB of space for each SD wafer card inserted (100 X 1.44MB = 144MB). Therefore the Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator under the existing firmware can only use a maximum of 144MB (140MB) of space on a SD card. There is a strong possibility that this firmware will never be updated since it would require the Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator to be sent back to the factory and taken apart to issue a firmware update since the firmware is not user upgradable (A new firmware would need to be written to allow Disk images to have up to 32GB capacity and to allow more then 100 Disk images per SD card, and at this time the Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator developers have no plans to do this). Therefore because of the firmware limitation, 256MB SD wafer cards are a ideal low cost way to distribute Coleco ADAM software since SD cards larger then 256MB would have a lot of unused space.
Question: I heard that all SD wafer cards between 1MB to 2GB are no longer being manufactured, is this true?
Answer: Yes the
Standard SD wafer cards 2GB and smaller are no longer in production, but can sometimes be found new or used from various online dealers until their inventory is depleted.
However, the SDHC and SDXC wafer cards are still being manufactured.
The Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator is 100% compatible with SDHC wafer cards between 2GB to 32GB in size. Also SDHC wafer cards come preformatted as FAT32. There is a possibility that in the years to come SDHC wafer cards might be going out of production, if that happens one day, then SDXC wafer cards will replace SDHC wafer cards. SDXC wafer cards between 32GB to 2TB are not compatible with the Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator since those cards use exFAT file system. At this time there is no plans by the Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator developers to write a firmware update to offer exFAT file support for SDXC wafer cards, however there is a possibility that SDXC wafer cards between 32GB to 2TB might be able to be reformatted as FAT32, and then maybe these SDXC wafer cards might work with the Coleco ADAM microSD Floppy Emulator.
